In the Statistical Account by Sir John Sinclair, published a year
or so after 1795, there appears details of the Parish of Ardnaraurchan,
and figures are given for Ardnamurchan - for Stuart (Sunart -
JD?), for Noidart and for Arisaig and South Morar. It appears
from the figures given that prior to the emigrations of 1772 and
1790 - the total population of Moidart was over 1200 but by reason
of the emigrations to America, the total in 1795, was only 712.
We know that in 1864 the total had risen again to 1100, but this
was cut in half in the following two years by a large emigration
to Melbourne.
I now give some figures from the Statistical Reports:- (1795)
